Poor LissyLou

Poor LissyLou is suffering today. Its hot, she’s teething and she is one grumpy little girl!

We have tried everything that usually works to cheer her up…….

  • singing “Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes”
  • giving her the Teething Bling Pendant to play with and chomp on – she got cross because she kept dropping it
  • encouraging her to chomp on her MAM Mini Cooler and Clip, instead she hit herself on the nose, which wouldn’t normally be an issue but today was the end of the world
  • dancing – made her scowl
  • tickling – brought the merest hint of a smile but it disappeared as soon as it arrived
  • getting C to smile at her and laugh – she stopped crying for a few seconds but then started crying again
Nothing is working! Even her dinner didn’t cheer her up!
Hoping that this afternoon gets a bit better!

MAM Mini Cooler and Clip Review

Thanks to the folks at MAM for the Mini Cooler and Clip that they sent us to review.

As you know LissyLou is just entering ‘Terrible Teething Time’ and so we have been trying out all manner of teething objects to try and find things that work for her.

The blurb:

Baby’s first teeth are a whole new adventure. MAM designers have made things easier by developing a teether which cools as well as looking cool.

  • The innovative clip combination ensures that the teether cannot get lost.
  • Extra lightweight and simple to hold and grasp for small babies in particular.
  • Special cooled element enabling even very young babies to reach their molars.
What we thought:
I liked the Mini Cooler and Clip – no more sterilising every two minutes because the teether has fallen on the floor, or losing it on shopping trips. The light weight design meant that LissyLou could control the Mini Cooler easily and when she misses her mouth and hits herself in the face at least its not hard enough to do any damage.
The Mini Cooler is textured to make it lovely to chomp on, LissyLou loves rubbing the little nodules along her gums
The shape of the Mini Cooler means it fits nicely in little mouths without them being able to stick it in too far (cue the lovely gag – eurgh!) it also means they can reach all parts of the mouth so great for when their molars start to come!
C is suffering with his teeth too at the moment, he is just starting to get his final molars through so he has been stealing sneaky chomps when he thinks no one is looking!
Both children think that the Mini Cooler is 10X better when it is cold straight from the fridge, it makes it even better to chomp as it is cold as well as the texture, LissyLou in particular thinks this is fantastic, it reminds me of the Dentist!
The Mini Cooler and Clip retails at £5.10 and is available in 3 colours. We thought it was well priced for a teether and especially as it includes the Clip We love MAM and their products are very clever, take a visit to their website

Teething Necklace

What we thought:

Since C was born I haven’t worn much jewellery. When I have worn any I have been very conscious of C or LissyLou either chewing on beads or breaking finer jewellery. So I don’t wear much other than my wedding rings.

The Teething Bling Pendant took me somewhat by surprise, it combines what looks like a pendant you would buy in most highstreet stores with the amazing added bonus that it is a safe product for LissyLou to teeth on. It arrived neatly packaged in a pretty organza bag, meaning you could buy it as a present and it would be ready to go.

Teething NecklaceThe Bronze colour is really pretty, it goes with most things in my wardrobe, on their website they have another 21 colours to choose from, you could get one to go with pretty much any outfit you choose! It hangs really nicely on me, falling to pretty much the perfect place for little hands to easily be able to reach it whilst you are holding them, LissyLou likes to hold it almost as much as she likes to chew it!Teething Necklace

Which leads me to its teether status…

I was pleased to see that not only is the Teething Bling Pendant BPA free but it is also made to withstand babies/toddlers/children in general from tugging on in and breaking it with its clever breakaway clasp, not unlike my id lanyard at work! So one hard tug and it snaps undone so no harm to my neck! Luckily LissyLou isn’t quite at that pulling stage yet, she is in the whole ‘I like to hold onto things really tightly and not let go’ – no fun when its my hair wrapped around her little fingers!

LissyLou liked it the second she got it into her little mouth, you could see her eyes get big as she chomped down on it and after a while she was enjoying licking it too! She does love to hold it too, she uses it as sort of a noiseless rattle, waving and shaking it about, watching it catch the light as it moves!

I should also tell you that C is rather partial to my “Superhero Necklace” too! He has taken to stealing it and running round shouting about being a superhero, and calls of “To the rescue” echo round the house. Luckily because of the breakaway clasp I don’t mind him having it round his neck, but it also means I can’t wear it myself when I’d like to! He doesn’t mind a little chew on it either!

I really like the Teething Bling Pendant, so much so I am going to treat myself to another one, it might be a hard choice deciding which of the amazing colours to go for!!! At £12.95 they are well priced for a piece of jewellery (and the added teething element makes it excellent value)

Smart Mum also do bangles £8.95, Teen bling and lovely gift sets (bangle and the pendant for £19.95 – bargain!). Or if you can’t decide which colour would be best for a gift then they also do gift cards for £20 which buys a gift set.

Visit their website, either for yourself or for a gift, they are great!

Terrible Teething Time!

I hate teething! Its the worst! I hated it with C, I think I hate it more with LissyLou. She is miserable, she wants to chew everything and anything, she is constantly soaking wet from the gallons of dribble and at this point I am looking for a miracle cure!

I don’t know where to start really, there are so many different products on the market, some are obvious, some not so. Very confusing!

We have been sent some products to try and you’ll see the reviews over the coming days…..

Amber Babies Teething Bracelet – Review

Amber Babies Teething Bracelet

The blurb:

For thousands of years,  the beauty of Baltic amber has been attracting attention. Amber jewellery is a treasure to own, for centuries was worn only by nobility and not affordable to the masses. Amber jewellery is fashionable and soaring in popularity even today.

Because amber was ascribed many healing properties it came to be used medicinally in many cultures. Wearing close to the skin is a traditional European remedy for teething. Its healing properties effects will calm your child without applying to drugs. Most of our amber teething necklaces are processed to softly rounded shape amber beads to keep intense healing effects to reduce stress but give general sense of wellness.

Pictures are not able to express the beauty of amber jewellery we sell.

What we thought:

I was initially a little sceptical. I mean teething products are normally all about chewing so I was unsure how something that just sits on LissyLou’s skin could really work.

I should start by saying that this product is just beautiful, it is so cute and tiny. It arrived in a tiny organza bag and would make a great present as it looked like a gift.Amber Babies

It looks so pretty on her little arm, it is a lovely set of tiny smooth amber beads and it fastens with a screw fastener that is cleverly disguised with amber beads too. It is still a little big, even for LissyLou’s chubby wrists, but I just push it higher up her wrist and cover it with her clothes, if not it does end up flying across the room when she waves those little arms.

The thread that is used to hold the beads together is carefully knotted twice between each bead so if  C LissyLou manages to break it then beads aren’t going to scatter across the floor. LissyLou does seem quite taken with it and has tried to get it in her mouth a couple of times so I will have to keep an eye on that but I could easily move it to her ankle if that happens.

In terms of its real purpose it is quite difficult to measure how well the Amber Teething Bracelet works, LissyLou does seem a bit calmer when she is wearing it, she still wants something to chew on though but doesn’t seem as distressed.

Maybe the point of the Amber Amber Teething Bracelet is to use in with more traditional ‘chew teethers’ to get the best results, that’s what seems to work best for LissyLou anyway.

Amber Babies Teething Bracelet is available from their website.
