The Curse of The Blog

Every time I have written about things either going right in the parenting stakes The Curse of The Blog has struck. It seems like I can’t say anything about either sleep or potty training without things going really wrong! But saying that sometimes you just have to tell the story anyway!

Potty training is a pretty big thing in our house at the moment. Last weeks Best and Worst Of The Week revolved around it. Well after that we had a horrendous day, we had NO successes and lots of accidents. I was exhausted and so tempted to revert to nappies again but I decided to persevere. So far I’m glad that I did.

Firstly, since the day from hell we have had a run of really good days. C went to preschool two mornings and I was amazed to find that he had stayed dry on both occasions. At home he was doing well too so then came our first HUGE potty training test. We decided to go to The Trafford Centre in Manchester. It’s about an hours drive so I carefully packed changes of clothes and told C that he would have to wait until we got there etc and even sat him on a maternity bed pad that we had left over from before I had LissyLou in case of emergencies.

We got there without incident and he used the toilet a number of times while we were there. He even managed to stay dry on the way home – RESULT!

I hope that this time The Curse Of The Blog doesn’t strike because he is doing so well and it would be so disappointing if things fell apart now.

Oh and don’t even get me started on sleep although maybe if I talk about the bad then it will get better?…………………….

Potty Training Is So Hard!

After my post at the weekend about the Best and Worst of last week being around potty training things went down hill quickly yesterday.

To say that it tested my patience, strength and resolve is an understatement. The day started well. C asked to take his bedtime nappy off and used the potty happily and put his big boy pants on. Hurray I thought, he is really getting it!

I spoke too soon. What a nightmare, two accidents before 10am and then a really bad poo accident and I was so tempted to stick a nappy on him and leave it. But I decided that I would have wasted all our hard work over the last few days and I would be giving him an easy way out too, not just me. So I cleaned him up and stuck pants on again and luckily we had no more accidents!

So far today we are going ok. No accidents but it’s quite hard work. On Saturday he was brilliant, no accidents, lots of potty trips, all instigated by him. Where did it all go wrong?

The Best and Worst of This Week w/e 08/10/2011

Part of the Best and Worst of This Week Linky

The Best……..

The best thing this week has been my little man and his successes with potty training. After lots of fits and starts over the last 6months or so he seems to finally be getting it. It just proves what I have always been told and always believed that children will be easy to potty train when they are ready to do it. We’ve gone from not being able to get him to wear underpants at all to a little boy who is excited to wear his underpants, takes himself to the potty, pulls his pants up and down himself etc. Yes we have had accidents but a lot less accidents than successes and finally we seem to be getting somewhere! I’m taking it slowly and making sure that we do it properly. I want him to be confident and happy through the process so hopefully this time will work!

The Worst…..

The worst things this week has been potty training. Yes, it’s going really really well but it’s hard work, the constant “Do you need a wee?”, the up and down the stairs with the potty to dispose of the contents and cleaning up after the accidents. All this while chasing after a newly mobile baby is actually quite tiring! Who knows, maybe next week the best thing will be potty training related weight loss for mummy!
